One of the hottest places to be in Miami these days is the Design District, a bustling cultural hub of high fashion, unique shops, celebrated designers and five-star dining experiences.

The newest address in the neighborhood is Quadro, a sleek skyscraper situated between Federal Highway and Biscayne Boulevard. Due to open in summer 2019, Quadro will boast 172,000 square feet of residential space for rent and 28,000 square feet of ground-level commercial space.

The stylish walls conceal a dedication to advanced aesthetics and environmental sustainability through technology, made possible in large part by the Fi-Foil Company’s energy-efficient VR Plus Shield™ insulation.

The Team Behind Quadro: Profit Meets Sustainability

Alta Developers, working with Revuelta Architecture and Behar Font & Partners, was the builder for the 13-story complex at 3900 Biscayne Blvd. on the former site of the ABC-affiliate TV station WPLG-10.

Alta is a South Florida mainstay responsible for such landmark projects such as Quantum on the Bay, The Vue and Metropolis at Dadeland.

Together, Revuelta and Behar Font are responsible for much of Miami’s most visually stunning architecture, including The Bath Club, Grovenor House, Okan Tower, Optima II and Peninsula Tower.

Kaufman Lynn Construction, a Florida-, Texas- and North Carolina-based full-service commercial construction company, was the general contractor. Kaufman Lynn’s credits include the Florida Atlantic University Recreation and Fitness Center in Boca Raton and Miami’s Freedom Tower restoration project.

Kaufman Lynn brought in IBP Miami as the insulation contractor. The company has extensive experience in everything from parking garages to multi-family housing.

IBP Miami Delivers Superior Cost-Effective R-value with Fi-Foil

IBP opted for Fi-Foil’s value-engineered VR Plus Shield solution over traditional insulation board because of its flexibility, lower cost and ease of installation.

Part of the wall assembly systems with R-11 and R-19 fiberglass batt insulation for sound barriers, VR Plus contributed to a high-performance wall system for Quadro and works well for projects like this. IBP installed the tape tab version of VR Plus Shield on metal framing on masonry block walls.

VR Plus Shield is a multi-layer reflective insulation that provides an R-value of 7.0 when used on 1.5-inch furring. Once VR Plus is installed, the reflective layers separate, forming three reflective air spaces. The reflective, low-e surfaces enhance the enclosed air spaces in the cavity to improve thermal performance for better energy efficiency—and, importantly, the low-e surfaces of VR Plus reduce radiant heat transfer for more comfortable living and work spaces.  The choice to go with Fi-Foil’s VR Plus Shield meant high performance with a faster installation, which in turn helped save on labor costs and keep Quadro’s construction on schedule. The insulation easily passed inspection and IBP received no callbacks concerning the work.

“VR Plus is easier to work with than handling larger [4X8] boards,” IBP General Manager Bert Albalat said in an interview. “Fi-Foil products are quicker to install, which saves us time and money.”
